How to make a website into an app
Four steps, about five minutes, nothing installed. The same flow converts a live website, a single HTML file, or a ZIP of a site.
-
1
Pick your starting point
Paste the address of a website that is already online, drop a single HTML file, or upload a ZIP of your whole site with index.html at its root.
-
2
Name and brand the app
App name, launcher icon, package name and version. The builder checks each one against Android's rules before it builds, so a bad package name fails in seconds, not minutes.
-
3
Build in the cloud
A real Android project is generated around your website and compiled on our servers. Nothing is installed on your computer — the free APK creator runs entirely in the browser.
-
4
Download and install
You get a signed APK you can install on any Android phone right away, or an App Bundle ready to upload to Google Play.
What does "make website to app" actually mean?
To make a website into an app is to wrap your web content in a native Android package — an APK — so it installs from a file or from Google Play, sits on the home screen with its own icon and splash screen, and opens full-screen without a browser's address bar. Your pages run inside an Android WebView, so anything that works in Chrome on Android works in the app.
Make Website to App is a website to app converter and a free APK creator in one — you convert website to app the same way whether you start from an address, a file or a folder. It accepts three kinds of input — a live website URL, a single HTML file, or a ZIP of a website — and produces the same thing every time: a signed Android app you can install immediately, or an AAB you can upload to Google Play.
It is free to use. The free tier builds signed, installable APKs with no watermark, no expiry and no card. Pro is only for the extras — AAB output for Google Play, your own signing key, splash screens, onboarding, native bottom tabs and push notifications.
Convert website to app — three ways in
Whichever you have — an address, a file or a folder — the app you get is the same. The difference is where the content lives.
From a website URL
Your site is online already. The app opens it in a full-screen WebView with your icon, name and splash screen. Publish on the web, and the app updates itself.
- WordPress, Shopify, Wix, Webflow, any CMS
- Logins, carts and dashboards just work
- Needs an internet connection
From an HTML file
One page with its CSS and JavaScript inside. It is bundled into the app and served from the device — the app works with no connection at all.
- Calculators, HTML5 games, single-page tools
- Works offline, opens instantly
- One file only — no separate assets
From a ZIP of a website
A complete multi-page site — HTML, CSS, images, fonts — zipped up. Everything is unpacked into the app, so the whole site works in airplane mode.
- Exported static sites, templates, docs
- Up to 5 MB free, 18 MB with Pro
index.htmlmust be at the root
Convert a website to an app from its URL
To convert a website to an app, paste its address instead of uploading files. The app opens your live site in a full-screen WebView with your own icon, name and splash screen, so it looks and behaves like an app rather than a browser tab. Every update you publish on the web appears in the app immediately, with nothing to rebuild.
This is the route for sites built on WordPress, Shopify, Wix, Webflow, Squarespace or any platform that renders pages on its own server, and for web apps with logins, carts or dashboards. The trade-off is that a URL app needs an internet connection, where a bundled HTML or ZIP app works offline.
Two things make a website-to-app conversion pass Google Play review and feel native: Pro's bottom tab bar, which turns sections of your site into native tabs, and push notifications, which reach people who are not currently on the site. When a WebView app is the right call →
Make an app from a single HTML file
A single HTML file is the simplest conversion: everything — markup, styles, scripts — lives in one document, so there are no paths to break. Upload it, set a name and icon, and the file is bundled into the app and served from the device itself. The result works with no connection at all.
Two things are worth checking before you build, because both fail silently inside an app:
- ES modules.
<script type="module">is blocked on bundled pages, so your JavaScript never executes and the app opens blank. This is the single most common conversion failure. - External resources. A font, script or stylesheet loaded from a CDN is a blank space when the device is offline. Inline them, or accept that the app needs a connection.
Our HTML validator checks both, plus the DOCTYPE, viewport tag and path problems that break WebView rendering — in your browser, without uploading the file.
Convert a ZIP of a website to an APK
A ZIP to APK conversion turns a complete multi-page website — HTML, CSS, JavaScript, images and fonts — into one offline Android app. Put index.html at the top level of the archive, keep every path relative, and the whole site is unpacked into the app and served locally.
The rules that decide whether a ZIP converts cleanly:
| Rule | Why it matters |
|---|---|
index.html at the archive root | It is the page the app opens; nested one folder deep, the app has nothing to load |
| Relative paths only | There is no web server inside an app, so /css/style.css has no root to resolve against |
| Lowercase filenames | Android's filesystem is case-sensitive — Logo.PNG and logo.png are different files |
| Assets included, not linked | Anything on a CDN disappears when the device is offline |
No node_modules or source maps | Everything in the ZIP ships inside the app and can be extracted by anyone |
Free accounts can upload up to 5 MB of content and Pro raises that to 18 MB — limits on your source files, not the finished app. The APK size calculator measures your files by actually compressing them, so you can see what the app will weigh before you build.

Do I need Android Studio to make a website into an app?
No. Android Studio is one way to build an APK, not the only one. It is an 8–12 GB install — the IDE, the SDK, a platform, Gradle's dependency cache — plus Gradle files, a manifest and a keystore to learn before your first build succeeds. A cloud APK creator runs the same Gradle build on a server, so nothing is installed on your machine.
| Make Website to App | Android Studio | Capacitor / Cordova | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Local install | None | 8–12 GB | Node plus the Android SDK |
| Coding required | None | Kotlin or Java | JavaScript plus config |
| Time to first APK | Minutes | Hours to days | An afternoon |
| Cost to start | Free | Free, plus your time | Free, plus your time |
| Native features | Camera, mic, location, push, tabs | Everything | Everything via plugins |
| Best when | Your website is the product | The app is the product | You want native APIs from JS |
The honest limits: a WebView app cannot do background location, Bluetooth or home-screen widgets, and heavy animation is smoother natively. WebView vs native, compared properly →

How do I make a website into an app?
Paste the website's URL into the builder — or upload its HTML file or a ZIP — set an app name, icon and package name, and build. Your site is wrapped in an Android WebView app and you download a signed APK you can install on any Android phone. No Android Studio, SDK or coding is involved, and a build takes about five minutes.
Can I convert a website to an app for free?
Yes. Make Website to App's free tier builds a signed, installable APK from a website URL, an HTML file or a ZIP, with no watermark, no expiry and no card required. Pro is only needed for AAB output, your own signing key, splash screens, onboarding, native tabs and push notifications.
Is this really a free APK creator?
Yes. Every free build is a complete, signed APK — not a trial, not watermarked, and it never expires. The free tier's limits are a short cooldown between builds, a 5 MB upload limit for HTML and ZIP content, and APK-only output. Pro adds AAB for Google Play, your own signing key and the native extras.
What is a website to app converter?
A tool that packages web content — a live website URL, an HTML file, or a ZIP of a site — into a mobile app that installs on a phone. This converter produces Android apps: a signed APK for direct install, or an AAB for Google Play. Your pages run inside an Android WebView, so anything that works in a mobile browser works in the app.
Can I convert a ZIP file to an APK?
Yes. Put index.html at the top level of the ZIP with your CSS, JavaScript, images and fonts alongside it, keep every path relative, and upload it. The whole site is unpacked into the app and served from the device, so the app works offline. Free accounts can upload up to 5 MB of content; Pro raises it to 18 MB.
Do I need Android Studio or coding skills to make an app from my website?
Neither. The build runs on our servers, so nothing is installed locally, and every Android-specific part — the project, manifest, icons and signing — is generated from the settings you choose.
Will the app work without an internet connection?
If you bundle an HTML file or a ZIP, yes: the pages are served from the device and the app works in airplane mode. If you convert a website by its URL instead, the app needs a connection for every screen.
Can I publish a converted website on Google Play?
Yes, provided the app does more than a browser bookmark would — Play's minimum functionality policy rejects bare URL wrappers. Bundled offline content, push notifications, native tabs and a splash screen all count as real functionality. Play also requires an App Bundle (AAB) for new apps rather than an APK.
What is the difference between an APK and an AAB?
An APK is a finished app that installs directly on a phone. An AAB is a publishing format that cannot be installed — Google Play uses it to generate a tailored APK per device, typically 20–35% smaller. New apps on Play must be uploaded as AAB; an APK is what you use for direct distribution and testing.
Why does my converted app show a blank white screen?
Almost always <script type="module">, which browsers block on bundled file:// pages, so no JavaScript runs. The other frequent causes are absolute paths pointing at your own computer and a missing DOCTYPE. All three are detected by our free HTML validator before you build.
Can I make a WordPress, Shopify or Wix site into an app?
Yes, by pointing the app at the live URL rather than uploading files — those platforms generate pages on their servers, so there is no folder of HTML to export. The app then loads your site the way a browser would and needs a connection.
Does it make iOS apps too?
Not yet. Make Website to App builds Android apps only — APK for direct install and AAB for Google Play. An iOS build requires Apple's toolchain and a paid developer account, and is not part of the free or Pro tier today.
Is the APK signed, and can I update the app later?
Every build is signed, because Android refuses to install an unsigned app. To update an app already on Google Play you need to sign with the same key as the original, which is what Pro's own-signing-key feature is for. Updates also need a version code higher than the previous release.
